About Snake Escape
Snake Escape belongs to the "arrow escape" family of puzzles, one of the most downloaded puzzle styles on mobile right now. Instead of plain arrows, each piece is a twisting snake with a head, eyes and a gradient body, and the snakes are packed together to form pictures such as a heart, a bird, a fish or a rocket.
It looks relaxing, and it is, until you realize that each snake can only leave once the snakes in front of it have gone. Working out that order is the whole game. It rewards planning more than speed, which makes it a great pick for a few quiet minutes.

How to play Snake Escape
- Look at the heads. Each snake leaves in the direction its head (and flicking tongue) points.
- Find a free snake. A snake can escape only if the straight line in front of its head is empty all the way to the edge.
- Tap to free it. It slides out along its own body. The grid dots help you trace its path.
- Clear the picture. Free every snake before the timer runs out to finish the level.
Rules
- Tapping a blocked snake costs a heart. You get 3 hearts on every level.
- On Easy to Hard, the snake that blocked you flashes red. On Expert and Insane it does not, so you have to work it out yourself.
- Each level has a timer. Leftover seconds become bonus points.
- Hints make a free snake blink but cost a few points.
Levels and difficulty
There are five difficulties. Easy uses short "baby" snakes and a relaxed timer. Medium adds bendy snakes, Hard adds long twisters, Expert adds bigger pictures without the red blocker flash, and Insane packs huge knots onto the largest boards with a tight timer. Within a run, every level gets a little harder: longer snakes, larger pictures and less time.
Scoring
You score points for every snake freed (longer snakes are worth more) plus a time bonus for each picture. Harder difficulties multiply your points, up to 4 times on Insane. Daily challenge scores can be shared with friends.
Tips and strategy for Snake Escape
- Start at the edges. Snakes near the border usually have the shortest, clearest escape routes.
- Trace the line from each head to the edge before tapping. If any other snake touches that line, wait.
- Look for "keystone" snakes that block many others and free them as early as possible.
- On Expert and Insane, slow down: a single wrong tap costs more than a few seconds of thinking.
- Save hints for the last third of a big picture, when the remaining knot is hardest to read.
How we built and tested Snake Escape
We built the level generator so that every picture is guaranteed to be solvable: snakes are placed in a way that always leaves at least one valid escape order. Before launch we generated and checked over 1,400 pictures across all difficulties with an automated solver and found no unsolvable level. On the hardest settings, the average puzzle needs 9 to 11 "rounds" of freeing snakes in sequence, and only about 30% of snakes can escape at the start, which is what makes Expert and Insane feel demanding.
Frequently asked questions
Is Snake Escape free?
Yes. It is free to play in your browser with no download or sign-up needed.
Can a level be impossible?
No. Every picture is generated with at least one guaranteed way to free all the snakes.
What happens if I tap a blocked snake?
You lose one heart. You have 3 hearts per level, and the level ends if you lose all 3.
How is this different from arrow puzzle games?
The rules are similar, but the pieces are long, bendy snakes that form pictures, so planning the order matters much more.
