Merge 2048: Slide, Merge and Reach 2048

Slide every tile at once. When two tiles with the same number meet, they merge into one with double the value. Keep merging to reach 2048, and then keep going.

About Merge 2048

2048 became a worldwide hit in 2014 and is still one of the most-played number puzzles. Our Merge 2048 keeps the classic rules and lets you choose your board size, from a tight 3×3 to a roomy 6×6 where 8192 is within reach.

Swipe on a phone or use the arrow keys on a computer. The daily challenge gives everyone the same sequence of new tiles, so scores can be compared fairly.

How to play Merge 2048

  1. Swipe or press an arrow key. All tiles slide as far as they can in that direction.
  2. Merge matching numbers. 2 and 2 become 4, 4 and 4 become 8, and so on.
  3. Watch for new tiles. A 2 or a 4 appears after every move.
  4. Avoid gridlock. The game ends when the board is full and no merges are possible.

Rules

Levels and difficulty

Board size is the difficulty setting: 3×3 Tiny is tricky and tight, 4×4 Classic is the original, 5×5 Big gives room for big numbers, and 6×6 Huge lets you chase 8192 and beyond.

Scoring

Every merge adds the new tile value to your score, exactly like the original game. Your best tile is shown on your share card. Daily challenge scores can be shared with friends.

Tips and strategy for Merge 2048

History of the game

The original 2048 was created by Italian developer Gabriele Cirulli in March 2014 as a weekend project, and it quickly became a global viral hit.

How we built and tested Merge 2048

We tested all four board sizes with thousands of automated moves to make sure tiles, merges and the game-over check always stay in sync with what you see. The daily challenge uses a seeded random sequence, so the same moves on the same day always produce the same tiles.
